Eleven years ago this week, the city of Oakwood announced plans to purchase the Old River Athletic Fields from NCR Corp. for $2.3 million.

In the decade-plus since, the fields have transformed to a multi-million dollar complex crowned by Lane Stadium, which serves four sports for Oakwood High School: soccer, field hockey, boys and girls lacrosse and track.

The city began using the fields in the early 1990s and entered a 10-year lease in 1999, according to Dayton Daily News coverage from 2006.

Fast-forward a decade to April 2016, and the Oakwood City Council approved the facility design of the Oakwood Athletic Complex, later named Lane Stadium.

The track at Oakwood's Lane Stadium is open to the public during the day and restrooms are accessible on the north side of the concessions building. For the first time in school history, Oakwood High School will now have a dedicated sports facility to accommodate soccer, field hockey, boys and girls lacrosse and track. TY GREENLEES / STAFF

The lacrosse team had its first practice in the new stadium in late February of this year.

The stadium, named after Oakwood High School 1963 graduate Doug Lane, seats 700 and opened March 11.
