Tri-State’s points races pivotal in title chase

This weekend’s Championship Bracket Series events, July 3-5 at Tri-State Dragway, could go a long way toward determining the 2009 season points championships at the Ross Twp. track.

After last week’s regular program, West Chester’s John Cook Jr. nabbed the points lead in the Super Pro series over Joe Lee of Erlanger, Ky.

Cook, who has 305 points, won the June 28 event while Lee bowed out of the competition early. Lee and Fairfield’s Jordan Price are tied for second with 275 points each, and Harrison’s Neil Roy is 70 points back in fourth.

The Pro division has Fairfield’s Jeff Seither (325), a semifinalist in last week’s Street Shootout, 20 points ahead of West Harrison, Ind., driver Curt McClure and 25 ahead of Kevin Bishop of Amelia.

Norwood’s Dave Jennings (280) holds a slim lead over Hamilton racer Ken Barton (260) in the Amsoil Street division points standings. Seither also is in the street chase, but needs a good weekend to make up for his present 95-point deficit.

The picture in the Junior Dragster division could be just as shaky, but if current leader Samantha Lee of Cincinnati continues to win, she could extend her 50-point lead over current runner-up Harley Patrick of Amelia and take control of the points race.

Defending division champ Kenny Carson, formerly of Trenton and now of Lebanon, lurks just 60 points back.

Henderson history

According to track publicist Jerry Wahl, Franklin’s Sloan Henderson’s pole-winning qualifying effort on Friday, June 26, was the first-ever by a female race driver in any division at Kil-Kare Speedway in Xenia.

As (bad) luck would have it, the season’s first-ever total field inversion took place, so Henderson started last in the feature and finished seventh in the 10-car NASCAR Whelen Late Model Series field.

Ty Ty again

Middletown Legends Series racer Ty Rose is on a bit of a winning streak lately. With a pair of wins last Saturday and Sunday at Kentucky Speedway, Rose has won eight races in a row — five at Indianapolis’ Speedrome, one in Louisville and twice in Sparta, Ky.

Rose will gun for win No. 9 tonight at Speedrome.
