Twenty one local players on Big Ten rosters in 2017

Ohio State

Robert Landers, Wayne, R-So., DL: In his first season on the field for the Buckeyes, Landers had 16 tackles. He ranked fifth on the team with 7½ tackles for a loss. He again should be a key player on Ohio State's deep defensive line.

Josh Myers, Miamisburg, Fr., OL: Myers enrolled at Ohio State in January. Scout.com ranked him the No. 3 guard prospect in the country.

Cin'Quan Haney, Chaminade-Julienne, Sr., CB: Haney walked on to the team in the spring of 2015. This will be his third season. He is a physics major who has also studied sign language. Alter grad Malik Zaire inspired Haney to walk on at Ohio State.

Ke'Von Huguely, Meadowdale, Jr., RB: Huguely, a walk-on, enters his third season. He saw action on special teams in two games last season. He caught a touchdown pass in the spring game in April.

Derrick Malone, Thurgood Marshall, Jr., TE: Malone, a walk-on, also enters his third season with the Buckeyes. At the Fiesta Bowl last season, he said he was enjoying a great experience with the team.

Iowa

Sean Welsh, Springboro, R-Sr., OL: USA Today named Welsh a second-team All-American last season. He made the All-Big Ten third team. He has started all but one game the last two seasons. Welsh earned praise this month for writing about his battle with depression.

Wisconsin

Danny Davis III, Springfield, Fr., WR: Davis earned second-team All-Ohio honors as a senior with the Wildcats. He could earn playing time as a freshman.

Kraig Howe, Alter, R-So., DE: Howe redshirted as a freshman and did not see any action last season. He was the 2014 Associated Press All-Ohio Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Michigan State
Messiah deWeaver, Wayne, R-Fr., QB: Weaver was the 180th-ranked prospect in the nation as a senior, according to Rivals.com. He missed the majority of spring workouts with a back injury but is healthy now and expected to compete for playing time this season.

Josiah Scott, Fairfield, Fr., CB: Scott, the No. 42 cornerback prospect, according to Scout.com, enrolled at Michigan State in January and tied for the team lead with eight tackles in the spring game.

Darien Tipps-Clemons, Piqua, Fr., LB: ESPN ranked him No. 82 among outside linebacker prospects in the class of 2017.

Illinois

Tito Odenigbo, Centerville, R-Jr., DL: Odenigbo played in six games as a redshirt freshman and in 11 games last season, making one start. He had 15 tackles in 2016 and one sack. His brother Ifeadi played at Northwestern and was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in April. The News-Gazette in Champaign ranked Odenigbo No. 17 on a list of the 50 most important Illini players this season.

Indiana

A'Shon Riggins, Hamilton, So., DB: Riggins earned an All-Big Ten freshman honorable mention in 2016, starting eight games and recording 37 tackles and making one interception.

Simon Stepaniak, Hamilton Ross, R-So., OL: Stepaniak made two starts at right guard and appeared in 12 games in 2016.

Wes Martin, Milton-Union, R-Jr., OL: Martin has appeared in every game the last two seasons. He started all 13 games last season.

Northwestern

Jango Glackin, Lebanon/IMG Academy, R-Fr., LB: A three-star prospect who played his senior season in Florida at IMG Academy, Glackin redshirted last season. He was named practice player of the week once last fall.

Charlie Kuhbander, Springboro, Fr., K/P: Scout.com and 247Sports.com ranked Kuhbander the No. 5 kicking prospect in the country. He kicked 11 field goals as a senior.

Michigan

Tyree Kinnel, Wayne, Jr., S: Kinnel played in all 13 games last season at safety and on special teams and and had 17 tackles. He's expected to earn a starting job this season.

Mike McCray, Trotwood-Madison, Sr., LB: McCray earned a Big Ten honorable mention last season. He started all 13 games and had 76 tackles. He was named to the Butkus Award watch list.

Nolan Ulizio, Lakota West, R-So., OL: Ulizio appeared in four games last season and should have a bigger role this season.

Minnesota

Jared Weyler, Centerville, R-Jr., OL: Weyler missed the 2014 season with an injury and didn't see any action in 2015. Last season, he played in 10 games and made eight starts. He missed the last three games with a torn triceps muscle. He was named to the Rimington Trophy watch list this summer. The Rimington Trophy goes to the nation's top center.
