Ohio State placed football coach Urban Meyer on paid administrative leave Wednesday as it conducts an investigation into a report Meyer knew about domestic abuse allegations against former wide receivers coach Zach Smith in 2015.
Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Ryan Day will serve as acting head coach as the Buckeyes prepare for the 2018 season. Practice starts Friday.
In a statement, Meyer said, “Gene (Smith) and I agree that being on leave during this inquiry will facilitate its completion. This allows the team to conduct training camp with minimal distraction. I eagerly look forward to the resolution of this matter.”
