Two more pieces of Dayton’s non-conference schedule fall into place

Flyers will play on the road a week before Christmas

Two pieces of the 2021-22 schedule for the Dayton Flyers men’s basketball team have fallen into place in recent days.

Mississippi released its schedule Monday, and it includes a Dec. 18 game against Dayton in Oxford, Miss. A time has not been announced.

Dayton, which leads the all-time series 7-0, beat Ole Miss 65-62 on Dec. 19 last season at UD Arena. Ole Miss finished 16-12 and lost in the first round of the NIT to Louisiana Tech.

Also, last week, the D1Docket, a Twitter account focused on college basketball scheduling news, reported Dayton will play Illinois-Chicago at UD Arena on Nov. 9, and a source confirmed that report. Dayton and UIC played in 2011 and 2014 at UD Arena. Dayton won both games.

The other known non-conference opponent for Dayton is Southern Methodist, which beat Dayton 66-64 on a basket with 0.2 seconds to play last season at UD Arena. The Flyers and Mustangs will play in Dallas, Texas, at a date to be announced.

Dayton also will play three games at the ESPN Events Invitational in Orlando on Nov. 25, 26 and 28. The bracket has not been announced. Possible opponents are: Alabama, Belmont, Drake, Iona, Kansas, Miami (Fla.) and North Texas.
