In addition to some spirited points battles in three of the four divisions, Kil-Kare Speedway is adding some open-wheel excitement on the track’s 3/8th-mile oval.
The United States Auto Club’s Honda Ignite Midget series makes a swing through the Buckeye State with tonight’s appearance at Kil-Kare and Saturday’s show at Columbus Motor Speedway. The visits combine USAC’s Eastern and Midwestern series into one show.
North Carolina’s Chris Lamb leads the point standings.
Also on the USAC circuit, Miamisburg’s Toby Alfrey picked up a pair of USAC Ignite midget victories last week running the dirt series. He won races at Gas City I-69 Speedway and Montpelier Motor Speedway, both in Indiana. Alfrey is third in the dirt standings and sits 67 points from the lead.
In weekly racing at Kil-Kare, Donnie Mahaffey leads Justin Alsip by five points in the late model division. That’s the same margin Jamie Sites holds over David Stump in the sport stocks. Four drivers have broken away in the compacts, led by Bryan Lynch. He holds a one-point lead over Paul Holley, three points over Amber Holley and 10 over Dewayne Snyder Jr. In the modifieds, Jack Jones holds a commanding lead.
Sceva remembered: Shadybowl Speedway hosts its Neal Sceva Memorial race for street stocks on Saturday. The special 51-lap race pays out $551 to the winner. The race is dedicated to former Shady Bowl track champ and Urbana resident Sceva, who drove No. 51. Racing starts at 7.
Hot laps: Edgewater Sports Park hosts three days of racing starting today at the strip in Cleves. Gates open at 8 a.m. all three days. Timed runs start at 9 a.m. today and Saturday and 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. … Little Eldora Speedway hosts go-karts and quarter-midget racing Sunday with the Border Wars and Future Stars events. Gates open at 9:30 a.m., practice follows at 11 a.m. and racing starts at 12:30 p.m. … Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington hosts the Grand-Am's Rolex Sports Car Series and Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series this weekend as part of the Diamond Cellar Classic. The Continental race (2 hours, 30 minutes) is at 10:25 a.m. Saturday and the Rolex race (2 hours, 45 minutes) follows at 4:30 p.m. on the 2.258-mile, 13-turn track. … Oregonia hosts the AMA Pro National Hillclimb at 7 p.m. on June 22.
