WATCH: Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Michigan-loving drummer has rude surprise for Ohio State fans

The Ohio State-Michigan rivalry never sleeps, as we are reminded again by Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. 

He took the fight to the Schottenstein Center in Columbus last weekend by adorning his instrument with the Block ‘M’ and then serenading the crowd with the Michigan fight song. 

Some might say this is a rude thing to do to paying customers, but it’s actually a brilliant move because it got people talking about the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who much like Michigan football were awesome in the 1990s but haven’t had the same commercial success since roughly the time Jim Tressel became Ohio State’s head coach.

It turns out Smith is a Michigan native and lifelong Wolverines fan, but another mystery remains: Did RHCP treat Columbus fans to their rocking version of the Ohio Players classic “Love Rollercoaster”? 

Also worth asking: Did the fans actually enjoy “Hail To The Victors” any less than most of their recent material?
