Junior quarterback D’Mitrik Trice completed 20 of 32 passes for 242 yards and three touchdowns to once again spark the Wayne offense. Tristan Davis made the most of five catches by scoring twice. Matt Wilcox added six catches for 87 yards and Chad Swanson five catches for 52 yards and one score.
Elder 16, Northmont 7: The visiting Thunderbolts stunned the Panthers with Jonny Lowery's 97-yard touchdown reception on their first play from scrimmage. Then Elder took over.
Northmont forced Elder to punt on its first possession. With the Thunderbolts starting at their own 3-year-line, senior quarterback Graham Oberer hit Lowery on a quick slant over the middle and the senior turned it into a 97-yard scoring dash that stunned a capacity “Purple Pit” crowd.
Oberer completed 14 of 29 passes for 192 yards and was intercepted twice. Kyle Webster, Zach Weatherford and D.J. Nickman had interceptions for Northmont (8-3). Elder (9-2) will play Moeller, which defeated St. Xavier, next week.
Dublin Coffman 42, Centerville 14: The host Elks couldn't overcome a 35-0 halftime deficit in another D-I, Region 2 opener. Coffman running back Dre Kendrick rushed for 238 yards and five touchdowns.
Junior running back Damian Popp had 185 yards rushing and scored for the Elks (8-3). He finished with 1,982 yards for the season.
Covington 46, Portsmouth Notre Dame 0: Senior running back AJ Ouellette had 10 carries for 131 yards and scored four touchdowns to carry the host Buccaneers in a D-VII, Region 26 games. Bobby Alexander added 161 yards rushing and also scored for the unbeaten Buccs.
The win sets up a showdown with two-time defending state champion Marion Local (11-0) next week. The Flyers bashed Fort Loramie 63-14 in their D-VII, Region 26 opener.
Colerain 41, Springboro 13: The host Cardinals, the state's top-ranked team, led 34-0 at halftime and pushed their unbeaten record to 11-0 in another D-I, Region 2 matchup. Springboro quarterback Elija Cunningham was 14 of 35 passing for 142 yards with one TD and four interceptions.
D.L. Knock led Springboro (9-2) with 114 yards rushing. The loss snapped an eight-game win streak by the GWOC South champs. Colerain will play Pickerington Central in the second round. Central beat Lakota West 38-28.
Hilliard Davidson 48, Miamisburg 7: Top-seeded and host Davidson (11-0) broke the D-I, Region 2 game open in the second half. Chris Young had 117 yards rushing for the Vikings, including a 54-yard romp. Lance Brockman had an 11-yard scoring run for Miamisburg (7-4). Davidson will play Pickerington North in the next round. North eliminated Fairfield 20-10.
Lehman Catholic 44, Paint Valley 9: The Cavaliers forced six turnovers – three interceptions and three fumble recoveries – in a D-VII, Region 26 mismatch. Greg Spearman scored three touchdowns for Lehman (10-1). Lehman will play Triad in the regional semifinals.
Triad 28, Cedarville 7: Trent McIntyre completed 16 of 27 passes for 155 yards and a TD to lead the host Cardinals (11-0) in a D-VII, Region 26 opener between the Ohio Heritage Conference rivals. Chaz Adams had an 8-yard scoring run for Cedarville (7-4).
D-V, Region 18: Waynesville and Chaminade Julienne were beaten. Waynesville dropped a 42-38 shootout at top-seeded West Jefferson to finish 8-3. CJ lost 56-28 at Richwood North Union to finish 6-5.
