Winningest girls soccer coach in Springboro history steps down after 14 seasons

Eric Detmer led Panthers to state runner-up finish in 2016

Eric Detmer, the winningest girls soccer coach in Springboro High School history, recently resigned after 14 seasons.

The Panthers won seven Greater Western Ohio Conference championships during Detmer’s tenure. The Panthers also were three-time district champs, two-time regional finalists and in 2016 were regional champs and state runners-up. Detmer was 179-65-30 in 14 seasons.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to be the head coach of this program for so many years, but the time has come for me to focus more time on my wife and four kids,” Detmer said in a release. “I would like to thank all the administrative staff and all the others that have made my time here at Springboro so memorable. I have created a lifetime of memories that I will not soon forget.”

Under Detmer, eight different players were named GWOC Athletes of the Year. He was a six-time GWOC Coach of the Year.

“While it’s a huge loss for our program, Coach Detmer has elevated our program to new heights,” Springboro Athletic Director Austin Rhoads said. “We wish Eric and his family all the best in retirement.”
