Wittenberg wins four-overtime thriller at Denison

Kennedy throws school-record seven touchdown passes

Wittenberg blew a 25-point lead in the second half but pulled out a 68-66 victory in four overtimes Saturday against Denison at Deeds Field.

Jake Kennedy threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Thaddeus Snodgrass to tie the game in the fourth ovetime, and then Kennedy scrambled to score on two-point conversion run, diving to just into the front corner of the end zone. His teammates piled on him as they celebrated the victory.

Kennedy threw a school-record seven touchdown passes. Four came in the first half. Three came in overtime.

Jeff Tiffner caught four touchdown passes, three in the first half as Wittenberg built a 35-10 lead, and one in the first overtime.

Denison quarterback Canaan Gebele rushed for five scores and threw two touchdown passes. His 1-yard run with 44 seconds left in the fourth quarter, followed by a two-point conversion pass, tied the game at 38-38 and sent it to overtime.

Wittenberg (4-0, 3-0) won its 18th straight regular-season game. It avenged its last regular-season loss. This was Wittenberg's first game at Denison since it lost 24-21 on a field goal in the final minute in 2018.
