The Flyers will host an exhibition game against Northern Kentucky (Nov. 1) and then Dayton opens the regular season against Bowling Green on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. at UD Arena. The Flyers also host Boston College (Dec. 4) and Wright State (Dec. 6) in non-conference matchups.
UD will play at Toledo (Nov. 13), the 2011 WNIT National Champions, and at Cincinnati (Nov. 16) before competing for three in-season tournament titles.
Dayton will play in the World Vision Classic (Nov. 25-27) in Storrs, Conn. The Flyers will face Buffalo, Fairleigh Dickinson and Connecticut. UD will take part in the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops (Dec. 20 -21), battling it out against Illinois and Gonzaga. The Flyers will then appear in the Saint Peter’s College Holiday Classic (Dec. 29-30) and take on South Florida on the first day.
“We have a veteran team that is looking forward to this non-conference schedule which will prepare us for the always strong Atlantic 10,” said Jabir.
UD’s 14-game Atlantic 10 portion of the schedule opens at home against Rhode Island on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 2 p.m. Dayton will play a total of seven home conference games. In addition to Rhode Island, the Flyers host Temple in an ESPN2 nationally-televised game (Jan. 15), Richmond (Jan. 25), Charlotte (Feb. 8), St. Bonaventure (Feb.11), Saint Louis (Feb. 18) and Xavier (Feb. 22).
UD’s road A-10 games include: Saint Joseph’s (Jan. 10), Massachusetts (Jan. 18), Fordham (Jan. 21), George Washington (Jan. 28), Xavier on ESPNU (Feb. 5), La Salle (Feb. 15) and Duquesne (Feb. 25).
At the conclusion of the regular season the top 12 teams will advance to the 2012 Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championship in Philadelphia, Pa. First round action of the Championship tips off on Friday, March 2, with the top four teams earning a bye. Quarterfinal play continues on Saturday, March 3, with the semifinal round on Sunday, March 4 on CBS Sports Network. The Championship game will be held on Monday, March 5, and televised live on ESPN2.
The Flyers have seven seniors and four returning starters from the 2010-2011 season in which Dayton advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year and won 21 games – the fourth consecutive season UD has posted 20+wins.
