Wright State volleyball wins Horizon League title, earns NCAA Tournament berth

The Wright State volleyball team is headed back to the NCAA Tournament.

The Raiders won their school-record 23rd straight match Sunday, sweeping Northern Kentucky 25-19, 25-20, 25-23, in the Horizon League tournament championship game at McLin Gymnasium to earn their third NCAA Tournament bid in the last four years.

Sam Ott totaled 13 kills and had five service aces to lead top-seeded Wright State (28-3).

Also for WSU, Megan Alders had 10 kills and Taylor Bransfield and Aaliyah Byers added nine apiece. Kate Meyer had 40 assists, Jenna Story had 19 digs and Callie Martin had 12 digs and seven kills.

NKU, the second seed, finished 18-13.

Wright State, which this season became just the fourth team since 1994 to go unbeaten in Horizon League play, will find out its next opponent next Sunday during the NCAA tourney selection show.

Dayton falls in A-10 final: Third-seeded Dayton (20-14) came up short in its bid for a Atlantic 10 title in a four-set loss to top-seeded Loyola (25-8) in Sunday’s championship game at Chafeitz Arena in St. Louis.

After dropping the first set 25-16, the Flyers evened the match by taking the second game 25-23. But the Ramblers responded by winning the next two sets -- 25-16, 25-23 -- to close out the match.

Lexie Almodovar had 20 kills, Taylor Russell added 11 and Alyssa Miller had 32 assists and 10 digs for Dayton, which was playing in its ninth straight A-10 championship game.

Karlie McNabb, the A-10 Player of the Year, had 21 kills to lead Loyola.
