Ohio State is losing a receiver to the transfer portal.

Caleb Burton is looking for a new place to continue his college career according to multiple reports.

A four-star recruit, Burton was the No. 132 overall prospect in the class of 2022 and the 22nd-rated player in his home state of Texas.

The Austin Lake Travis High School grad enrolled early last year but wasn’t able to win a spot in the rotation of receivers coach Brian Hartline as a freshman.

He is the seventh player to enter the transfer portal from Ohio State since the end of last season and the first from the offensive side of the ball, but he is not likely to be the last.

The Buckeyes finished spring over the limit of 85 scholarships, and players across the country are making the decision to transfer now after depth charts were shuffled by spring practice.

Receiver is among the most crowded rooms for Ohio State, where rising juniors Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka could form one of the top duos in the country next season and seniors Julian Fleming and Xavier Johnson Jr. are likely to get lots of snaps this fall.

Burton was one of four four-star receivers to sign with Ohio State in ‘22, and the Buckeyes added three more four-stars in ‘23 along with five-star Brandon Inniss.

Inniss does not join the roster until this summer, but classmate Carnell Tate appeared to make strong first impression and saw some time with the first team during the spring game.

Also potentially of note to Ohio State fans: Lorenzo Styles Jr. announced Tuesday afternoon he is entering the transfer portal after spending two seasons at Notre Dame.

A four-star recruit from Pickerington Central, he is the son of former Ohio State linebacker Lorenzo Styles and the older brother of current Ohio State defensive back Sonny Styles.

“This decision was not an easy one, but it is the right decision for me and my family,” Styles wrote in a message posted to social media. “Once again, thank you Irish Nation for your support and love. As I begin my next chapter, I’m excited to see what the future holds.”

Styles caught 54 passes for 684 yards in two seasons in South Bend, including a 54-yard catch on the first play of the season last year at Ohio State.

ESPN reports he plans to move to cornerback at his new school.
