Sunday Storms cause damage, power outages

Strong storms with high winds passed through the Miami Valley and Southwest Ohio last night, causing power outages and property damage in Preble County.

At 10:45 a.m., Dayton Power and Light customers were mostly restored of electricity in Montgomery and Miami counties, but significant outages remain in Preble and Logan counties.

UPDATE @ 10:42 a.m.

A barn in the 8800 block of Rockridge Road north of Lewisburg in Preble County was all but destroyed from the windy storms that passed through late Sunday night and early Monday morning.

Wind gusts in the area were reported as high as 55 mph.

StormCenter 7 Meteorologist Brett Collar said the highest of the wind gusts was reported around 55 mph in Wayne County Ind.

Trained weather spotters have reported several trees down in Champaign, Darke, Preble, and Wayne counties, likely caused by high winds that were associated with the storms that moved through. A tree also reportedly fell and knocked down power lines on Creek Road in Champaign County near St. Paris.

Around 12.45 a.m. a trained weather spotter also reported several trees and power lines down across the southern parts of Logan county, particularly around Co. Road 163 and 130.

A representative for Time Warner Cable also confirmed outages in the Tipp City area that will impact all cable, phone, and Internet services. An estimate on when service could be restored was not known.
