Without warning, the weather can go from sunny to stormy. That’s why we are constantly monitoring our forecast for you in the WeatherCenter.

We are able to use a special tool that's unique to WHIO — our own Live Doppler 7 HD radar. The barons system is always being updated, upgraded and calibrated so that it is working at its best.

It’s quite a powerful tool.

Think about the fact that your microwave emits about 1,000 watts of energy. Well, our Live Doppler 7 HD radar emits 350,000 watts of energy.

WHIO has been at the forefront of weather radars. We were actually one of the first to buy a radar on-air.

Many say it was that technology that helped save lives during the Xenia tornadoes in 1974.

So we are lucky and happy to have our Live Doppler 7 HD radar to track storms down to your street level to help keep you and your family safe.
