Butler Twp. residents face choice on electric aggregation

BUTLER TWP. – The idea of electrical aggregation is that residents of Butler Township will gain “buying power” on their electrical rates, supporters say.

If voters approve the aggregation program Nov. 8, it will allow locally elected officials to purchase electric generation at a discounted rate for the community.

Under government aggregation, local officials bring residents together to gain buying power for the purchase of competitively priced electricity from a retail generation supplier certified by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio.

Township officials in support of the program said aggregation gives residents more choices on where they get their electric and gas needs while allowing them to opt-in or opt-out. Residents of the township can make the choice to stay with their chosen provider and have the option to change at any time.
