David Wilson snagged 32 percent of the vote and will face Gore in November after his 45 percent finish. Albert Griggs Jr. is eliminated with 21 percent of the vote.
Gore and Wilson are seeking to fill the seat currently held by Mayor Tom McMasters, who is not seeking re-election.
“In Huber Heights, with the type of sides we’ve seen in the past, this is huge moving forward,” Gore said. “We still have a lot of work to do, but I think my message from the beginning has always been, unifying this council is how we move the city forward.”
Byrge, currently representing Ward 5 on council, claimed 46 percent of the vote for the council seat to Chase Warden’s 27 percent. Narrowly behind, but apparently eliminated, is Rick Stan at 26 percent of the vote.
“It’s not just a victory for me, I feel like it’s a victory for the city,” said Byrge. “It’s people speaking out about what they want for the future to get away from all this divisiveness.
“I feel with people supporting Jeff Gore for mayor, we’re on the way to seeing a better future for our city,” she said.
Byrge and Warden will face-off for the seat currently held by at-large incumbent Mark Campbell, who is running to fill Byrge’s seat in Ward 5.
