Concussed Burfict one of 4 Bengals starters to miss practice

Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict was removed from Sunday’s 24-20 loss to Pittsburgh to be evaluated for a concussion after a helmet-to-helmet collision with Steelers guard David DeCastro but was allowed to return in the second half.

Burfict missed practice Wednesday, and the team listed his injury as “concussion/knee.”

A team spokesman said Burfict did not report any concussion symptoms Sunday and passed the medical evaluation, but Tuesday he reported concussion symptoms.

Three other Bengals starters missed practice Wednesday: running back Jeremy Hill (knee), tight end Tyler Eifert (back) and left guard Clint Boling (shoulder).

Boling has been battling the shoulder issue for weeks. The team may be considering shutting him down as left tackle Andrew Whitworth took snaps at left guard while benched right tackle Cedric Ogbuehi played left tackle.

Also sitting out were returner and wide receiver Alex Erickson (non-injury related) and tight end Tyler Kroft (knee/ankle), while Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Green was listed as limited for the fourth straight practice since returning from a hamstring injury, although his teammates said they expect him to play Saturday at Houston .

Also limited were defensive ends Wallace Gilberry and Michael Johnson (shoulder), linebacker Vinny Rey (hamstring), defensive tackle Pat Sims (hip) and wide receiver James Wright (knee).
