Anytime Fitness in Centerville seeks to reopen

Members are directed to other clubs while ‘remedy’ sought

Members have been locked out of the Anytime Fitness club at 1027 S. Main St. (Ohio 48) in south Centerville since early last week, and the club’s management has posted a sign on the door of the business assuring members that they’re seeking to reopen.

“We are working with our corporate office to get the club back in working order for member use,” the sign says. “In the meantime, you are welcome to work out in the Springboro, Kettering or West Carrollton clubs. We hope to have this situation remedied soon.”

The club’s franchise owners could not be reached Thursday, but Mark Daly, spokesman for the Minnesota-based fitness-center chain, said via email that company officials “are exploring multiple options to get the club reopened as soon as possible. Members will receive an update in the next day or two.”

The fitness center opened in June 2013.

Timothy Albro — partner of Dayton-based Crest Realty, the commercial realty company that is the leasing agent for the Centerville retail shopping center that includes Anytime Fitness — said in an email that, “What has occurred with Anytime Fitness is we have two business partners who no longer wish to be partners. We are working with them as well as Anytime Fitness corporate to secure a new franchisee to operate the location.”

A few members of the center expressed frustration about the closure on the center’s Facebook page.

“Do we know yet when/if the club will be reopening???” one member asked in a Facebook comment posted on Tuesday. “Will we be given a rebate on our membership dues? This is the only club I am able to get to conveniently before work, and don’t feel we should have to pay when our home club is closed.”
