Area sees new Ohio Third Frontier support

Local businesses and organizations received new Ohio Third Frontier support Wednesday, including the University of Dayton, which received $3 million to work with local companies on surveillance systems.

The Ohio Third Frontier Technology Validation and Start-Up Fund, which assists young technology-focused companies, awarded a Dayton company, Analytic Diabetic Systems, LLC, $98,366 for the development of software to help healthcare providers monitor and manage patient blood sugar levels, the Ohio Development Services Agency said in a release.

Also Wednesday, the Ohio Third Frontier announced internship program awardees. The program is a way to connect Ohio students to companies with open interships. The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce was awarded $428,571 to administer that program in the Dayton region.

And the Third Frontier announced its 2013 “innovation platform program awardees,” which are collaborations between state universities and colleges to advance commercial technologies to the market.

UD was awarded $3 million in collaboration with Optica Consulting, Woolpert, Greenlight Optics, Tenet 3 and the city of Dayton. That project will develop a system that improves the function and security of surveillance systems used by law enforcement, campus security and government facilities, the Development Services Agency said.
