How the business started: "The company was looking for ways to keep the brand fresh and keep customers coming back," Alvarez said. "We were exploring other opportunities and light bulbs seemed to mesh well with batteries." He said that both home and commercial customers need both batteries and light bulbs and the business seemed to click together so it "made sense to add light bulbs to the mix. What we have that the big box stores don't is the personal service – someone in our stores that can help you find exactly what you need in a light bulb."
Future plans: Alvarez said that with the legislation regarding energy conservation, light bulb technology is changing rapidly and bulbs are continually improving. "They warm up much quicker than they used to and they now give out the same tone of light as a regular incandescent bulb," Alvarez said. "The 100 watt bulb is now discontinued and the 75 watt bulb will be gone by the end of this year so customers coming into our stores often ask for replacements for these. There are now more improved compact fluorescent and LEDs. For those who haven't been to our stores for a while, it's a different experience than it was before and there is a lot to see."
