BioOhio names new CEO

BioOhio trustees have appointed John F. Lewis, Jr. as the bioscience trade organization’s new president and chief executive. Lewis succeeds Anthony J. Dennis, who announced his retirement in April.

Lewis has served most recently as chief operating officer and interim president of BioOhio. He has led bioscience-focused trade missions to Germany, Japan, China, Taiwan, France and Israel, BioOhio said in a statement on the appointment. He helped to market Ohio companies internationally as well as to attract global companies to locate new operations in Ohio. The organization says more than 72 companies have been attracted to Ohio in the past six years.

“John brings substantial and diverse experience to the leadership of BioOhio,” said Carol Whitacre, chair, BioOhio Board of Trustees, said in the organization’s announcement.

Lewis is a Bexley, Ohio native and graduate of Miami University and Capital University Law School. He is a licensed attorney.

BioOhio said that in the past 12 years, Lewis has helped raise more than $1.3 billion for Ohio’s emerging bio companies. He is a founding partner of the Ohio TechAngel Fund (OTAF), the largest Angel fund in the U.S. and one of the largest in the world.
