Commuter Advertising acquires Chicago firm

Dayton-based Commuter Advertising Inc. will acquire a Chicago mobile technology firm to build an online transit media marketplace, company officials announced Tuesday.

Commuter Advertising announced its acquisition of Chicago-based CommuteStream at the American Public Transportation Association’s annual conference in Houston, Texas. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Commuter Advertising sends hyper-targeted digital audio and visual LED messages over bus notification systems to inform passengers of products, services and sales at nearby businesses using the vehicles’ GPS technology and software created by the company.

CommuteStream partners with mobile transit application publishers to sell and deliver in-app, predictive, location-based advertisements for businesses via an automated online media buying platform.

Officials said the acquisition will unify Commuter Advertising’s existing national transit footprint and CommuteStream’s transit-focused mobile ad network to accelerate the build-out of the first online transit media marketplace.

CommuteStream co-founders Samuel Pro and David Rogers will join the Commuter Advertising leadership team as chief technology officer and director of user experience, respectively. In addition, CommuteStream’s Chicago-based sales team will join Commuter Advertising.
