Deloitte gets $50M contract to support Air Force computer modernization

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — Deloitte, the audit and consulting firm, has been awarded a $50 million contract to provide data management support for an ongoing, $5 billion project to replace outdated computer systems the Air Force uses for acquisition, logistics, accounting and personnel administration.

Deloitte Consulting LLP, of Alexandria, Va., is to oversee extracting information from the old computer systems and make sure that it is accurate data before another contractor, Computer Sciences Corp., imparts the information into new computers, Air Force officials said. Deloitte’s contract runs for up to three years.

CSC’s Beavercreek office is handling the Expeditionary Combat Support System project through a separate contract to integrate various new computer systems across the Air Force system.

The multi-year project supports about 500 jobs in the Dayton area. Its cost has soared to $5.2 billion from its initial estimate of $3 billion and its expected completion date has slipped to 2016 from the earlier projected date of 2012, the U.S. Government Accountability Office reported in September 2010.

It ranked among the more expensive cost overruns for similar projects across the armed services, said the GAO, the auditing and investigative arm of Congress.
