Fairborn car dealer building new dealership

Cramped Wagner Subaru will keep current space for used car sales

Wagner Subaru in downtown Fairborn is building a new 14,500-square-foot dealership at I-675 and Ohio 444 in Bath Twp.

The car dealer will keep its location at 217 N Broad St. open for most used-car sales, Bo Wagner, the dealership’s owner, said. The new location, at 5470 Intrastate Drive, will house the new-car sales and showroom, certified used-car sales, and the parts and repair shops.

“We’ve been in our current location since 1966,” Wagner said. “We simply have outgrown the building and do not have any more room to expand.”

Depending on weather and construction schedules, the new Wagner Subaru may open in July or August, Wagner said.

The dealership, which has 16 employees now, will add six to 10 new positions, Wagner said.

Wagner started selling Subarus in 1971, making it the 11th oldest Subaru dealer in the U.S., Wagner said.

“With Subaru’s growth in the last eight years, our sales have nearly doubled,” Wagner said. “But we literally have a two-car showroom. We have grown out of the place.”

The new dealership also will alleviate a parking crunch that hampers workers and shoppers at its current location.

“This will make it much more convenient for our customers,” Wagner said.

While most of the nation’s largest automakers saw their sales decline during a frigid February, Subaru’s February sales jumped 24 percent thanks to strong sales of its new SUVs, the Forester and Crosstrek, according to the Associated Press.
