Former NewPage head named to Appleton’s board

Paper producer Appleton has two new board members, including a former chairman of NewPage, a Dayton-area company.

Mark Suwyn and George Wurtz have been elected to its board of directors, Appleton said Tuesday.

Suwyn, 69, is president of Marsuw, a private investment and consulting company. He left as chairman of NewPage, the Miami Twp.-based paper producer, in June 2010. He previously served as chairman and chief executive of NewPage for five years.

Wurtz, 55, is president and CEO of New WinCup Holdings, of Stone Mountain, Ga., a private manufacturer and distributor of single-use cups, food service containers, lids and straws.

“Like all our board members, Mark and George bring a diversity of thought and experience as well as independent perspectives that are invaluable to the corporate governance process,” Mark Richards, Appleton’s chairman, president and CEO, said in a statement. “Both Mark and George have extraordinary knowledge of the paper industry gained from many years of successful executive management experience.”

Based in Appleton, Wisc., employee-owned Appleton has some 400 workers in West Carrollton.
