Half Price Books sought the move because it needed more room, and couldn’t find a suitable space in its price range near the Dayton Mall, Friend said. The Dayton store ranks among the chain’s most profitable, but also its smallest, she added.
However, the new Beavercreek store, near the Mall at Fairfield Commons, will measure about 9,300 square feet, versus the current store’s 5,800 square feet, Friend said.
The additional square footage will allow the retailer to carry more merchandise, offer more seating, and perhaps give it additional space to host live music and special events, Friend said.
In addition, the company also has not ruled out opening another store in Dayton — eventually.
“We are still going to be looking in this area for a second store,” she said. “But at this time we can’t do it.”
According to its Web site, Half Price Books operates more than 100 locations in 16 states, including stores in Columbus and Cincinnati.
