Hospital project snags Modern Healthcare award

DAYTON — Miami Valley Hospital was one of two hospitals nationwide to receive an Award of Excellence this year as part of Modern Healthcare’s annual design awards.

The hospital was chosen from 88 entries for the award for its 12-story, $150 million patient tower, which was completed last year. A Modern Healthcare article gave a nod to what the hospital achieved for $309 per square foot, but called attention to the new structure’s caregiver sightlines, patient-safety features and strategic placement of staff work stations.

One judge wrote, “They pushed providers out to the patients. Others did that, too, but no one took it as far as Miami Valley has.”

Two other hospital building projects received honorable mentions, and eight more received citations.

The other Award of Excellence recipient was Memorial Sloan-Kettering Brooklyn Infusion Center in New York.
