The analysis will result in a draft national competitiveness strategy to be approved by the President by April 2014, with a subsequent analysis and follow-up strategy due in 2018.
The National Tooling and Machining Association and the Precision Metalforming Association supported the move.

Bill co-sponsors were U.S. Reps. Dan Lipinski, a Democrat, and Adam Kinzinger, a Republican.
