The department’s finding clears the way for the employees to apply for benefits and services through the federal Trade Adjustment Assistance program, which is designed to help workers who have lost their jobs as a result of foreign trade. The TAA program offers job training, income support, job search and relocation allowances, a tax credit to help pay the costs of health insurance, and a wage supplement to certain re-employed, trade-affected workers aged 50 or older.
The workers are eligible for the program because Berry Co. has shifted some of its advertising production work to India, contributing to job losses at Berry, the Labor Department concluded.
The eligible workers include temporary employees from Kelly Services, Office Team, PSI Group, Robert Half & Accountemps, Cynergies Solutions, CRS and Spherion, the Labor Department said.
They were among a total of approximately 8,600 workers at companies across Ohio and in 16 other states who were judged eligible to apply for benefits through the TAA program.
