74 jobs to be cut at local National City Mortgage office

MIAMI TWP., Montgomery County — PNC Financial Services Group said Tuesday, Aug. 4, it will eliminate 74 jobs at the National City Mortgage operation here by the end of December.

The job cuts are part of a previously announced initiative by PNC to eliminate 5,800 positions during the next two years, according to Fred Solomon, a spokesman for the Pittsburgh-based bank, which acquired National City in December 2008.

According to a letter filed with the Ohio Dept. of Jobs and Family Services, PNC will begin laying off workers Sept. 30, though the majority of cuts will occur on Dec. 28. Those workers slated to lose their jobs already have been notified, the letter states.

The company will continue to employ more than 1,000 at its 3232 Newmark St. operation, according to PNC’s letter.

Despite the announced layoffs, Solomon said National City Mortgage’s total employment here is growing because the company is growing its mortgage-servicing operations and adding staff to handle loan modifications.

“Our decision to maintain the servicing portion of the business there will make the Dayton area net gainer,” he said.

Some of the workers targeted for layoffs may be given other jobs with the company, Solomon said.
