MIAMISBURG — A pharmacy services company that is a spin-off of the Kettering Health Network is relocating its growing business to a building here that is big enough to accommodate 28 employees.

Kettering Specialty Services will move into 13,600-square-foot space on Lyons Road with plans to add 10 new employees over the next two years, said Chris Fine, the city’s development director.

The company is expected to invest $260,000 in an automated pill dispensing machinery and acquire new delivery vehicles to meet new contracts with long-term care providers to deliver packaged medications.

The company, which initially provided pharmacy service for Kettering Health Network, now delivers packaged medications to long-term care facilities with about 1,000 beds, only 250 in the Kettering network.

“Their long-term goal is to provide services to 5,000 long-term care beds,” Fine said in a presentation Tuesday to the City Council.

Kettering Specialty Services also administers the hospital network’s pharmacy services and conducts intravenous medical sales and durable medical equipment sales and services.

Founded in 2008, the company is part of the hospital network’s for-profit arm, Fine said in the memo. It is headed by Jeff Post, formerly network director of Kettering Health Network’s Pharmacy-Apothecary.

“Jeff has a strong track record of growing businesses, including increasing the KHN Pharmacy from two pharmacy locations into a strong business enterprise with eight locations, while supervising the pharmacy benefits for KHN,” according to a hospital marketing publication.

Neither Post nor hospital officials were available for comment Wednesday.

From 2008 to 2011, the company, located at the SouthPointe Business Park on Alexandersville Road in Miamisburg, grew from five to nine employees with a $580,000 payroll. In recent months, 10 more workers have been added, increasing the payroll to $1.15 million, according to Fine’s memo.

With the move, the company is filling the last space available in a building on Lyons Road, west of Byers Road and Interstate 75, formerly known as the Mim building.

Both buildings are owned by Mehland Developers, an affiliate of Construction Managers of Ohio in Miamisburg, Fine said.

Fine sought support from council for a $25,000 loan over three years, forgivable if the company employs 28 workers with a $1.5 million payroll.

The city estimates this would raise $33,750 a year in income tax, offsetting the entire potential cost in one year. Council is expected to approve the loan at their Feb. 7 meeting.
