To reach that goal, Kroger will increase its trash diversion rate to 70 percent for all stores by the end of 2015, officials said. Currently, the company diverts 59 percent of waste.
In addition, Kroger plans to source 100 percent certified sustainable palm oil by the end of 2015, and has begun the transition to certified sustainable palm oil in three food production facilities that make products containing palm oil.
Kroger is the largest traditional grocery retailer in the U.S., with 2,424 supermarkets in 31 states, including 23 stores in the Dayton market.
