The acquisition strengthens Ghent’s position in furniture products and “represents another major step in the company’s strategy to support education and office markets with enhanced offerings,” the company’s statement said.
Founded in 1976, Ghent’s line of furniture includes Waddell display and trophy cases. Ghent also produces communication boards, presentation products, bulletin and chalk boards and more.
John Rouse, senior vice president at Ghent, said his company has about 125 employees in Lebanon and another 25 at a Greenville production facility, where the Waddell line is produced. WoodWare has about 10 employees. Ghent will rely on a Pennsylvania suppliers for materials, Versatech, which has supplied wood components to WoodWare, he said.
He declined to disclose acquisition terms, but said the move makes sense for his company.
“We’ve been looking to expand in the office furniture, presentation furniture marketplace,” Rouse said.
The acquisition probably won’t mean any new local hires immediately, but it could mean additional office staff in time, he said.
