LexisNexis named publisher of Massachusetts Official Reports

LexisNexis Legal and Professional, a legal research and business information firm in Miami Twp., has been named official publisher of the Massachusetts Reports, the state’s authoritative body of appellate decisions, including all opinions of the supreme judicial court and published opinions of the appeals court, company officials announced.

Terms of the deal were not announced.

By statute, the Reporter of Decisions of the Supreme Judicial Court and the Appeals Court awards the contract to publish the Official Reports to the publisher that best fulfills the interests of the state. The assignment, which started on July 1, will run for three years.

“LexisNexis is delighted to publish the Official Reports of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,” said Jeff Pfeifer, LexisNexis vice president of primary law, in a statement. “Our expertise as the largest legal e-book publisher will make this important legal information easily accessible to a wider audience.”

Officials said LexisNexis will help the state enter the world of electronic publishing by offering, for the first time, an e-book version of its advance sheets, the official case law up until the point of the publication of the bound volume of the Official Reports.

LexisNexis has about 3,400 employees and contractors in Miami Twp. at its Legal and Professional division, which is the company’s biggest single concentration of employment.
