LexisNexis parent to expand in NC

The parent company of LexisNexis is expanding in North Carolina, the state’s governor said Wednesday.

Reed Elsevier Inc. will expand its operations in Cary, creating 350 jobs in the next five years and investing $1.75 million, Gov. Bev Perdue said. The expansion was made possible in part by assistance from North Carolina’s Job Development Investment Grant, the state said in its announcement.

Formed in 1993, Reed Elsevier owns LexisNexis, whose local campus has more than 3,000 employees in Miami Twp.

LexisNexis is focused on online access to business and legal documents. The company has said its Miami Twp. location is the biggest one for Lexis or Reed Elsevier in terms of employment.

“We’re laser-focused on delivering greater value and better outcomes for our customers,” Mike Walsh, chief executive of LexisNexis Legal & Professional, said in North Carolina’s announcement. “The expansion in Cary supports our mission to bring innovative products and services to market, even faster than today.”

A company spokeswoman said the announcement has no impact on Dayton-area employment.

“This is an indicator of our overall business growth,” spokeswoman Pamela Rath said in an email to the Dayton Daily News. “We are expanding and building out our existing Cary, N.C. location, which is where our PCLaw, Time Matters and Juris businesses are housed.”

Rath added that, “Dayton remains an important center of operations for our company and there are no staffing impacts in Dayton as a result of the announcement today.”

The state said the overall average for new jobs in the expansion will be $91,644, plus benefits. The average annual wage in North Carolina’s Wake County is $44,980, the state said.
