Local firms up for state tax credits

At least three Dayton-area firms are up for state tax credits, according to a meeting agenda for the Ohio Tax Credit Authority.

Malt Products Corp. in Dayton, Timbertech Limited in Wilmington and Festo Americas LLC in Mason are on the agenda for the authority’s meeting Monday in Columbus.

Late in 2012, Malt Products announced that it would pursue a $26 million expansion at its Wolf Creek Pike plant. The company planned to retain 35 existing jobs while creating 30 new ones.

The new plant will brew the company’s brand of malt extract that will go to the baking industry as an ingredient for bread, bagel and bun products, a company manager told the Dayton Daily News last year. The expansion was to involve building a brew house and a dry blending plant and expanding rail access to the facility, he said. Grain was to be brought in via rail, unloaded and used to produce malt extract.

Dayton government also sought $500,000 in Montgomery County ED/GE (Economic Development/Government Equity) funds last year.

Two other projects are on the authority’s agenda Monday for locations still to be determined. Possible expansions or moves to Ohio are planned by G-TEKT North America Corp. and Realeflow LLC and G.R. Clement Inc., according to the agenda.

Companies apply to the Tax Credit Authority for credits to fuel expansions and hiring.
