He was perhaps best known in Dayton as the leader of the Dayton-Miami Valley AFL-CIO, he role he assumed in the late 1970s. He retired from that position in 2011. He served on
the State Ohio AFL-CIO Executive Board, and he was a manager of the Lakewood’s AFL-CIO Retirement Complex, also serving on the executive committee of the Greater Dayton United Way and of the Dayton Red Cross.
On his retirement, the Dayton AFL-CIO Labor Council executive board named a local food pantry the “Wesley Wells AFL-CIO Labor Food Pantry” in his honor.

He was born Aug. 7, 1938 in Hazard, Ky. to the late John Wesley and Betty Wells. In addition to his parents, Wes was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Amol and Katherine Wells and Martin Lee and Edna Matlock Wells; and sister and brother-in-law: Mildred and Raymond Teague.
According to his obituary, Wes is survived by his wife of 40 years, Wendy “Nita” Wells; his children: B.W. Punyko (Michael), Leslie Gregg (Glenn), John Wells (Melissa), Michelle Isabell (Rob), Christopher Mabry Wells and Jessica Pritchard (Terry); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, where the funeral service will begin at 6 p.m.
Another visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Urban Winkler Funeral Home, 513 W. 8th Street, Connersville, Ind. , where the funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Dales Cemetery, Connersville.
