The Northgate location in Colerain Twp. will begin selling inventory at a discount immediately.
The company will continue to operate Cincinnti stores at Macy’s Tri-County Mall, Macy’s Kenwood Towne Centre, Macy’s Florence Mall and Macy’s Anderson Towne Center.
Macy’s, which is based in Cincinnati, has locations at the Dayton Mall and the Mall at Fairfield Commons in Beavercreek.
Major mall chains have struggled in recent years as consumer shopping habits shift online and to stores that offer some element of experience. Other stores like Things Remembered, Gap and Victoria’s Secret have announced plans to close stores last year. More than 10,000 retail stores closed nationally in 2019.
“We’ve been investing in malls where developers are investing,” Macy’s President Hal Lawton told investors in November. “Those stores continue to outpace the rest of our fleet.”
