Mike-sell's Snack Food Co. has a new chief executive, Charles "Chuck" Shive Jr.
Based in Dayton with manufacturing plants in Dayton and Indianapolis and distribution centers in Cincinnati, Columbus, Sabina and Louisville, the company on Monday announced Shive as its CEO, effective immediately.
This announcement follows the retirement of David Ray, the company’s most recent CEO. Ray had been with the company for seven years, Mike-sell’s said in an announcement.
“I’m honored to be working with such a talented and passionate team,” Shive said in the statement. “As a fourth generation business, Mike-sell’s has a rich history built on passion and excellence, and we will continue strengthening this company with these values in mind. We have exciting plans for this more than 100-year-old brand.”
Those plans involve some brand refreshing, updating the look of packaging, and how the company markets its brands, Shive said in an interview with the Dayton Daily News. That may involve becoming more "aggressive" in marketing and perhaps introducing product lines — chips and other snacks, he said. What do you think about this?
The company has about 70 employees in Dayton and about 150 to 180 workers total at all locations, including independent distributors.
Shive joined Mike-sell’s 10 months ago as its executive vice president of marketing, the company said.
“I’ve truly enjoyed working with Chuck over the last year,” Ray said. “He is dedicated to this company and this brand and has a great vision for the future of Mike-sell’s.”
Shive, 46, is moving to Dayton from Louisville.
He has more than 22 years experience in national and international brands, including Brown-Forman and E&J Gallo Winery, the company said.
Shive said, “I just think it’s an exciting time for Mike-sell’s. We have some exciting times coming.”
