The building will be Motoman’s North American base, Yaskawa said. It will serve as home to what today are the current West Carrollton headquarters and a Troy plant.
The new facility will house up to 275 employees, with room to grow by as much as 200,000 square feet.
Tom Schockman, Motoman chief financial officer, said the company could grow by 25 employees in the next few years.
The company looked at sites within a 100-mile radius, with a Springboro-area site being a “finalist,” Schockman said. He declined by specify other sites.
“It was the best complete package for us, from the standpoint of economics, service to our customers, convenience to our employees,” Schockman said of the Austin Road location.
The company said design for the new facility is under way, and construction could begin in July, with a possible move-in date of June 2011. Ground has not been broken, Schockman said.
The announcement was expected. In recent days, the Montgomery County Transportation Improvement District set aside 22.5 acres adjacent to the interchange in case Motoman chose it.
Also Wednesday, the company said there has been a “unification” of Yaskawa Electric America and Motoman into one company, Yaskawa America Inc., effective June 1.
