New restaurant, sports bar now open in Riverside

Riverside is seeing a flurry of restaurant activity, with two new eateries opening in recent weeks and another on the way.

Song's Sushi Korean & Japanese Cuisine is now open at 5516 Airway Road in a free-standing building on the west edge of the Page Manor shopping center, where it replaced a China's Best restaurant.

The restaurant, owned by Song Amburn and Sun Reed, offers Korean dishes such as Bibimbap and Bulgogi, Japanese dishes including Udon noodle entrees and hibachi chicken, and sushi, as well as more than a dozen bento-box meals at lunch.

Song’s Sushi seats 69, has 13 employees and is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, Amburn said. Plans call for adding Sunday hours in March.

Robert Murray, economic development director for the city of Riverside, said Song’s Sushi “is a great complement to the wide array of international restaurants we have in Riverside.”

Song Amburn also owns Song's Barber Shop at 4156 Colonel Glenn Highway. For more information, call (937) 254-8989 or check out the Song's Sushi Facebook page.

Also opening in recent weeks was Smokin' Aces Bar & Grill at 4317 Linden Ave., in space that previously held the Filling Station Sports Bar & Grill. Co-owner Andrew Engler said Smokin' Aces has 14 employees and is open seven nights a week.

Smokin’ Aces hosts live music, and its menu focuses on burgers, wings, ribs and traditional bar food.

“We will open for lunch by spring,” Engler said.

And plans are moving forward for Airway Kitchen, which will open this spring in the former Ponderosa steakhouse building at 4918 Airway Road in the Airway Shopping Center. Murray said a five-year lease has been signed, and renovations are underway.

The new restaurant is owned by the same family that operates the Starlite Diner in Dayton. Hasan Kilic, Starlite Diner’s owner, said in December that the restaurant’s menu will include Greek dishes, and will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week.

A Ponderosa steakhouse had operated at the site at Woodman Drive and Airway Road for 40 years, but it shut down abruptly in April 2014 after Ponderosa officials and the restaurant’s landlord “couldn’t come to the right terms on a lease,” a Ponderosa spokeswoman said at the time.
