If you have an opinion about how the former fairgrounds should be redeveloped, the next public feedback meeting is this Thursday.

University of Dayton and Premier Health came together for a joint venture to redevelop the 38-acre site along South Main Street and are in the early stages of planning what could be built on the site.

The next public meeting will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the University of Dayton Kennedy Union Ballroom. At this meeting, the public can give feedback on the character, shapes and forms of the private buildings. This feedback will be used when seeking developers to build the buildings and make the plan a reality.

At the last meeting, on June 27, attendees gave feedback on what kind of open spaces there should be in the neighborhood. Thursday’s meeting will be a chance to review those ideas as well.

“Whether you have joined one of our earlier community workshops or conversations or this will be your first, we want to hear your input,” OnMain said in a statement.

Premier Health and University of Dayton bought the former fairgrounds in 2017. They formed a new organization, onMain, that is leading the joint venture to turn the 38-acre site into a new neighborhood.

Officials with onMain have already led a public input process and outlined a vision for how the site could be developed. They are now having public meetings to help as they develop more detailed guidelines for elements of the neighborhood, such as public spaces and private buildings.

For the fairgrounds vision to become a reality, private developers will need to be interested in building on the site. OnMain plans to work with different developers for different parts of the site, instead of seeking one master developer to build the neighborhood.

The plan is for the long-term project to start along Main and Stewart and have that corner be the catalyst as the neighborhood is built inward. The goal for the new neighborhood is that it will connect to the surrounding community, have unique amenities, and high quality public spaces.

You can RSVP online for the Thursday meeting.
