One tenant, a Subway sandwich shop, was the first to agree to locate in the center. Smith provided some details about four more tenants:
• Heartland Pharmacy, which will also open a second pharmacy on West Alex-Bell Road near Chappy’s Tap Room & Grille;
• A bakery and coffee shop that will focus on donuts, pastries, cakes and specialty breads, among other items. Smith said he was not authorized to release the name of the owners, who operate other locations in the Miami Valley.
• Awesome Yogurt, a locally owned frozen-yogurt shop that will offer self-serve yogurt and toppings sold by the ounce, and which will offer low-fat, no-fat and dairy-free options.
• A national retailer that Smith said he could not yet disclose.
The Shops at 3000 development is located on a corner lot that has been vacant since 1998 when a gas station on the property was razed and on an adjacent lot that housed a Gates Bros. glass shop until the property was purchased and the building razed in 2011. The center is near the Kettering-Oakwood border.
Gregg Gorsuch, economic development manager for the city of Kettering, has said city officials are “very happy that that under-utilized site is going to become a welcoming gateway to Kettering.”
