Stanton Optical responds to Ohio AG’s lawsuit

Stanton Optical was “completely surprised” by the lawsuit filed Tuesday by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, according to the company’s general counsel.

The lawsuit filed against two Florida companies that operate Stanton Optical charges the businesses with multiple violations of Ohio’s consumer laws.

Stanton Optical’s advertisements “are very similar to advertisements that its competitors run and the attorney general never informed the company of any problems with them,” said Matthew Zifrony, the company’s attorney.

Stanton Optical operates three stores in Ohio, including Beavercreek, Miamisburg and Toledo.

DeWine told the Dayton Daily News that the company showed a pattern of “classic-bait-and-switch” activity and did not deliver on its promises to consumers.

Zifrony said Stanton Optical was recently informed by DeWine that the company had to provide refunds to a small number of customers in connection with sales that took place before an expansion of its refund policy more than two years ago.

“The company was working with the attorney general to resolve that issue, and will continue to do so, and doesn’t understand why the attorney general felt the need to take the steps that it’s taken,” he said.
