U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said in a statement that “in an abundance of caution, to accommodate consumers who attempted to enroll in coverage during the final hours of Open Enrollment but who may have experienced issues” the department is extending the deadline.

While the website and the call center remained open for business on the last day of enrollment on Sunday, with over half a million consumers enrolling throughout the day, some consumers were asked to leave their name at the call center.
Those consumers who have already left their contact information at the call center do not need to come back and apply during this extension because a call center representative will follow up with them later this week.
Dayton-based CareSource, which sells health insurance on the marketplace, said in a statement that the company supports CMS’s decision and is fully-staffed to assist consumers who are in need of a 2020 plan.
Last open enrollment, about 207,000 Ohioans signed up for individual insurance through the marketplace created by the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.
