Surf Ohio shirt gets “Buckeye Lake” update

The iconic “Surf Ohio” T-shirt is getting an update to to help save Buckeye Lake, according to Ron Kaplan, the brand’s founder.

Traxler Custom Printing of Columbus has released a limited edition “Surf Ohio Save Buckeye Lake 2015” shirt, in a bow to the imperiled lake and its deteriorating, 177-year-old dam, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

Traxler owner Zach Traxler is the son of Ron Kaplan, who created the original “Surf Ohio” T-shirt in 1978.

Kaplan is the enshrinement director at the National Aviation Hall of Fame at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Kaplan promoted the original T-shirt in the mid-1980s by holding the first two “Surf Ohio” bashes at Buckeye Lake. He also presented two “Surf Ohio Festiki” events in Dayton in 2009 and 2010, in collaboration with the Fraternal Order of Moai.

Traxler is selling the shirt for $24, at www.traxlertees.com.
