The first talk will be April 19 at the auditorium of the 110 E. Monument Ave. club, said Larrell Walters, who heads UD’s IDCAST (the Institute for the Development and Commercialization of Advanced Sensor Technology).
All the sessions will start at noon and they will be open to the public. The cost for each session will be $10, which will cover a boxed lunch and a drink.
And all the sessions will be offered in plain English with the non-specialist in mind, Walters said. “It’s not going to be like a Ph.D. candidate giving a lecture,” Walters said.
The first talk will be on sensor technology. In May, a session on UAVs will be added in another week. In July, a talk on advanced materials will be added in yet another week.
By July, there will be three weekly talks each month, all held on Mondays, Walters said. When offerings are fully rolled out, there will be three Monday sessions each month, each held on a different subject, he said.
Gil Pacey will be the April 19 speaker. Walters said Pacey has expertise in remote, chemical and biological sensing. Pacey is with Miami University but spends his research time at the IDCAST facility located at 444 E Second St.
Organizers are working on a Web site so those interested can register to attend.
