Teradata announces $525M acquisition

Teradata Corp. — a local company that bills itself as the world’s largest company focused on data warehousing and business analytics — said Wednesday it has agreed to acquire an Indianapolis-based marketing software company for $525 million.

The acquisition of privately held Aprimo Inc. is Teradata’s largest acquisition since becoming independent of former parent NCR Corp. in 2007. Teradata is based in Miami Twp.

Bruce Langos, Teradata chief operations officer, said about 400 new employees will join the company once the acquisition is complete, but it was too soon to say how many of those new employees would be moved to the Dayton area.

Aprimo offers computing services and marketing software and counts more than 35 Fortune 100 companies as customers, Teradata said.

Aprimo’s offerings will be new to Teradata’s business analytics portfolio. The offerings will help speed marketing campaigns, product launches and brand initiatives, among other services, the company said.

“It really helps strengthen what we are at Teradata overall,” Langos said of the acquisition, which is expected to close in the first quarter of 2011.

Shares of Teradata (NYSE: TDC) fell Wednesday 96 cents to close at $42.10. The share’s 52-week trading range is $26.80 to $43.83.
