Teradata announces private cloud capabilities

Teradata on Monday announced new private cloud computing capabilities to help companies make better use of processing power on virtualized servers.

Currently, many companies that adopt virtualization only use about 25 percent of the available processing power of virtualized servers. Teradata Active Data Warehouses (ADW) provide customers with 90 to 100 percent utilization, company officials said.

Officials said consolidating data warehouse servers onto a Teradata ADW Private Cloud assures information technology executives that their computing resources are fully used and producing around-the-clock return on investment.

In addition to reducing the number of servers and storage, a Teradata ADW Private Cloud also delivers both capital and operating expense savings, including labor, data center space, power and cooling. The technology also gives users a unified version of the most relevant data — more quickly and at less cost — for better business intelligence across disciplines and processes, officials said.
